Black Ops 4 has arrived and has everyone buzzing about Blackout, its new battle royale mode, which is one of the best in the (admittedly rather small) genre, if not the best now depending on who you ask. If this was just a standard Call of Duty release year I don’t think Battlefield V would be in quite so much trouble, but the fact that Black Ops is a hit, it just seems like BFV has a long, uphill climb ahead of it.
Get ready for invasion, the third DLC pack for CALL OF DUTY®: GHOSTS, featuring: four unique multiplayer maps, and EPISODE 3: AWAKENING – the next installment in EXTINCTION’s four-part episodic narrative. In Episode 3: Awakening, the CIF Team descends into the perilous depths of an alien underworld. Armed with a range of new hi-tech weapons and equipment, our heroes must penetrate a series of defensive barriers.

Vehicles. I haven't personally flown or driven anything yet other than the little tank-bike to get from point to point, but tanks feel remarkably less threatening than BF1. In a way, I find this to be a good thing as a tank sitting on a point with 3-4 players with anti-tank weapons can make short work of it, but perhaps they could get a little armor boost (imho). Airplanes are airplanes. If they drop bombs on you, you're SOL. I can't attest to air combat, but when I hear planes in the air, I haven't had too much experience getting erased by them when we have friendly planes in the sky.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Multiplayer raises the bar, delivering the most thrilling experience yet with a focus on tactical, grounded gameplay and player choice. The game offers a new level of online action across a variety of new weaponry, maps and modes. With the return of the Pick 10 Create-a-Class system and a new Gear category, gameplay becomes more customizable than ever, giving players choice on how to equip their Specialist. Combined with the ability to unlock devastating Scorestreaks, players will have the opportunity to be powerful on their own or unstoppable as a team.

But then Call of Duty followed up with COD: WWII the following year, before moving back to the future with Black Ops 4 this year. Battlefield doing a WWII game now may feel like the natural follow-up to Battlefield 1, but since Call of Duty did it last year and they effectively were doing historical combat two years ago, it doesn’t really feel as fresh as it once did, and even trying to echo the vignette campaign structure of BF1 has produced apparently mixed results, judging by some of the early previews where outlets got their hands on the game. Polygon called its frenetic shooter segments in the midst of somber storylines a “piñata at a funeral.”

A currency system has been implemented allowing players to buy weapons, accessories and clothes. Players can gamble with their "COD Points" in a free-for-all based playlist called "Wager Match", which is composed of four game modes.[23] Time limited objectives known as "Contracts" can be purchased to gain more currency and experience points.[21] The progression system is not featured in local split-screen multiplayer. In local split-screen play, all character customization options are already unlocked. Players can no longer define game rules such as win conditions.
Limited Ammunition and Healing. NO MORE SELF HEALING! ... kind of. I guess the current system has a sort of self-healing if you're above 50 HP, but if you're below that you'll need a patch up from a medical pack. You can only carry one (Medics have infinite) and the design feels pretty balanced. May need a tweak here or there, but I like that healing is now a decision you have to make in the heat of battle rather than a magical restoration after a few seconds.
World War 2 games have been extremely overdone, but if you want to compare this to Battlefield 1, it's an absolute joke. This is in no wayWorld War 2 games have been extremely overdone, but if you want to compare this to Battlefield 1, it's an absolute joke. This is in no way accurate to the actual WW 2, almost as inaccurate as Cod WW2, and shoves political agenda down your throat. A rather bad and forgettable installment into the Battlefield franchise.… Expand
